Despite the cold that’s making my head feel like twice the size, I decided to have a walk to the Bois de la Cambre – a very nice park not too far from my place. I went there with a friend as rumors had said that there was a possibility to rent skates. Unfortunately, rumors were proved wrong – it does not make much sense running a business where you can make some money one week per decade. Still, it was very beautiful. And if next time the Brussels administration manages to shut down the pumps for the fountains, to keep people from the ice while it is still freezing so that it becomes all smooth and hires the same guys who are running the artifical ice skating on the Christmas market – well, that would be perfect.

If winter comes, can spring be far behind?
Theoratically, you are absolutely right. But I live in Brussels, remember? Last year, we had snow in March and when people were asking me if it wasn’t hard working all sommer, I used to ask them back: What summer?
Obviously we use a different definition: For me, summer is the period the year which is warmer than spring or fall. Even a Belgian summer meets these criteria (note that my definition doesn’t depend on a specific amount of rain).
You see?? My point. That definition doesn’t apply to Belgium. Usually the month of April (or May) and September (or October) are warmer and sunnier than June, July and August. At least, this is my experience so far.
